PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte vowed Friday to acquire more brand new military equipment, including 12 more fighter jets.

Duterte told the soldiers from the 102nd Infantry Brigade in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, that his administration would not accept second hand equipment.

"Kung buhayin pa ako ng Panginoon Diyos, you will have about 24 jet planes. Mag-acquire pa ako ng 12. Subukan ko. You have the best equipment, ‘yung --- ang sources natin sa baril ninyo is just two nations. I will not mention the names," he said.

"During my time, wala na akong second-hand mga barko, barko. It has to be brand new. Even I have to spend double the money," the President added.

Duterte also expressed confidence that the government would win on its fight against the Islamic State-inspired Maute Group in Marawi City.

"Dito naman sa extremism, mananalo tayo. But we will have losses, ganon lang talaga ang buhay. That is how life is governed in this universe. You would never know when," he said.

He said it has been taking long for the government forces to finally defeat the terrorists because of the civilians who could be affected.

"But no we are a government and we are bound by rules and even treaties, ‘yung mga Geneva Convention. That’s their favorite sanctuary. They also refer the Geneva Convention ‘pag pabor nila. ‘Pag nadehado sila, wala silang ingay sa Geneva Convention. And that is always the problem because the government can never ignore treaties and the laws of the land," he said.

The military has been conducting offensive operations against the Maute members since May 23 when the militants attacked Marawi.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said earlier the military could completely clear Marawi of terrorists by June 2.

But in a news briefing on Friday, Brigadier General Restituto Padilla, military spokesman, said that it was not possible anymore.

"It was a deadline that was set forth and provided by the Secretary of National Defense so we can aim for it. But the final decision actually rests on the ground commander. And based on the report that we’re getting I don’t think we can meet that deadline today to completely --- I’d like to qualify that --- to completely free Marawi of every single armed element in every street," he said.

But he added that the government forces were working and doing their best to immediately complete the mission.

Australia Still Working Out Specifics of Triton UAS Acquisition

Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton (image : ADBR)

Defence has confirmed that it is considering the acquisition of “up to seven” Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton air vehicles, despite seeking expressions of interest for the delivery of facilities to support only “up to six” aircraft.

While the Integrated Investment Program stated that Defence would acquire precisely seven of the remotely piloted aircraft from the early 2020s, it is understood that a specific number is yet to be determined.

“Delivery of the Triton capability is constrained by the number of ground-based mission control systems, operated by remote pilots and sensor operators, rather than the number of Triton [air vehicles],” a Defence spokesperson told Australian Defence Business Review.

“Defence continues to analyse information received from the US Navy to determine the most efficient and effective mix between Triton and mission control systems to deliver the capability effect sought by the Australian government.”

Meanwhile, the spokesperson stated that Defence intends to acquire and sustain the Triton unmanned aircraft system (UAS) capability through a cooperative project arrangement with the US Navy.

Acquisition approval will be sought from Government in 2017-18, the spokesperson added. Indeed, the AIR 7000 Phase 1B Multi-mission Unmanned Aircraft System project is listed as being in development for second pass approval consideration in 2017-18 in the Defence Portfolio Budget Statements 2017-18.

Defence sought expressions of interest on May 23 for the delivery of facilities and infrastructure at RAAF Base Edinburgh and RAAF Base Tindal to support the Triton acquisition.

The location of the facilities is expected to be finalised as part of the AIR 7000 Phase 1B approval in the second quarter of 2017, according to a document obtained through AusTender that provides details of the sustainment facilities to be constructed.

Confusingly, the document states that the procurement will be conducted through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, rather than a cooperative project arrangement.

The expression of interest process is due to close on June 20.

MANILA -- The Philippine Air Force (PAF), through its Bids and Awards Committee, is looking for suppliers capable of supplying it with spare parts needed for the maintenance of the airframe systems of five of its McDonnell Douglas MG-520 "Defender" attack helicopters.

Some of the MG-520s are currently being used in the ongoing clearing operations against remnants of the Maute Group terrorists still holed up in Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur.

Budget for the project is placed at PHP7,471,000.

MG-520 helicopters to undergo maintenance are tail numbers 395, 438, 439, 503 and 507.

Pre-bid conference is on June 9, 9 a.m. at the PAF Procurement Center Conference Room, Villamor Air Base, Pasay City, BAC chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Parilla said in a bid bulletin posted at the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System.

The PAF is known to operate between 12 to 16 models of the MG-520, according to military sources.

The PAF affair with the MG-520 started in the early 90's when 25 units of these excellent aircraft were delivered to country.

It was used with great effect against New People's Army (NPA) rebels and lawless elements like the Abu Sayyaf Group for the past few years.

The MG-520 is derived from the MG-500 light utility helicopter.

It can be armed with .50 caliber heavy machines and air-to-ground rockets.

BTR-50 of the Vietnam (all photos : QPVN)

After a long absence, recently BTR-50 armored vehicles of the Viet Cong tanks have been seen on duty during the exercises.

The silhouette of the BTR-50 was not shown in the clips shot by the QPVN Channel, but by some preliminary characteristics the body can be identified as the BTR-50.

The BTR-50 has a very similar body frame to the PT-76 tank. Rather, the BTR-50 is a version used for combat mission development from the PT-76.

The BTR-50 was an amphibious tanker manufactured by the Soviet Union in the early 1950s based on the PT-76 amphibious tank chassis. Thousands of BTR-50s were manufactured by the Soviet Union during the period 1954-1970 and exported to dozens of countries around the world, including Vietnam. It is noteworthy that the BTR-50 was a rare tank armored vehicle developed by the Soviet Union during this period. Almost, afterwards the Soviet Union focused solely on tire armor.

According to some documents, in 1971, Vietnam received the first BTR-50 armored vehicles. In addition to the BTR-50PK firstly join to the Army, the BTR-50PK was later converted to the Navy by the formation of the Marines.

BTR-50 armored vehicles has a combat weight of 14.5 tons, 7.08m long, 3.14m wide, 2.03m high. The design of the car is considered boat-like PT-76. However, the structure in the car is completely different from the front cockpit, the middle compartment and the rear compartment.

According to the manufacturer, the BTR-50 is capable of carrying up to 20 soldiers in the car, they will be out by the huge roof door. This design makes the soldiers in danger on the battlefield when out of the car will face immediately with the enemy fire.

The BTR-50 is 13mm thick steel armor on the front of the body, 10mm on the sides, 10mm on the roof and 7mm on the tail.

Minister observes Land 400 live firing

The two companies vying to build Australia's next generation Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles have been put through their paces at a live firing exercise at the Puckapunyal Army Base in Victoria.

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP, observed the live firing which saw the contenders for LAND 400 Phase 2 test their weapons.

“Projects like LAND 400 Phase 2 give us the opportunity to modernise our defence capability while creating hundreds of jobs in Australia and boosting domestic manufacturing.”

“Both vehicles represent a significant advancement in the protection and capability levels we will provide to our diggers,” Minister Pyne said.

“The Rheinmetall Boxer CRV and the BAE Systems Australia Patria AMV35 are armoured fighting vehicles with vastly improved firepower, protection and mobility than our current fleet.”

The vehicles are currently undergoing test and evaluation as part of the 12 month Risk Mitigation Activity to help pick a winner.

Minister Pyne said the Risk Mitigation Activity is also looking at ways to maximise Australian industry involvement in LAND 400.

“There has been significant effort put in to increase the opportunities for Australian companies to be a part of LAND 400,” Minister Pyne said

“Defence completed a nationwide series of workshops late last year to provide Australian companies with an opportunity to showcase their capabilities to the shortlisted LAND 400 tenderers.

LAND 400 Phase 2 is a $4-5 billion project to purchase 225 Combat Reconnaissance Vehicles to replace the Australian Light Armoured Vehicles currently in service with the Australian Army.

As reported in the Asian Web resources in the Vietnamese naval base at Vung Tau is preparing for the official handover ceremony of Vietnamese Navy arrived to former South Korean corvette PCC 761 Gimcheon type Pohang.

PCC 761 Gimcheon was inducted into the South Korean Navy in 1987 and taken out of their composition December 31, 2015. It is one of 24 corvettes type Pohang standard displacement of about 1260 tonnes constructed in several modifications South Korean shipyards in the 1980s and early 1990s. This type includes the well-known and corvette PCC Cheonan is 772, sunk March 26, 2010 as a result of allegedly DPRK torpedo attack submarine. Since 2009, the type of ships Pohang commenced withdrawal from the South Korean Navy, so far excluded from the list of seven ships. Head corvette PCC Pohang 756 is now installed as a museum ship in Pohang, in whose honor and was named.

Decommissioned ship corvette PCC 758 Gyeongju in 2015 was transferred to Peru, and now corvette PCC 761 Gimcheon transferred to Vietnam, and another RCC 762 Chungju is preparing to transfer to the Philippines. It is reported that Philippine sources confirm the upcoming transfer of Vietnam corvette Gimcheon, testifying that his future Vietnamese crew was trained in South Korea at the same time the future of the Filipino crew of the corvette Chungju.

Recall that in 2014 the Colombian Navy also received a similar pattern derived from the South Korean Navy corvette PCC 755 Anyang ( one of the four types of ships Donghae , built in the early 1980s and decommissioned in 2009-2011).

Approximately 3,000 metres of data and power cabling, 115,000 lines of computer code and a customised Australia-designed computer and mission system is powering the Australian Defence Force’s next generation battlespace communication system, with Boeing Defence Australia on track to deliver by the year’s-end.

Project Currawong’s largest Mission System Integration Test Event held at Damascus Barracks in Brisbane on 25 May successfully proved the capability of the system’s wide-ranging configuration ahead of the mission system field test in August.

“We are very confident we now have our hardware and release one software finalised and ready to be put through its paces both in the lab and field; our wide area communication links are now all in qualification testing or in formal acceptance,” said Lee Davis, Project Currawong program director for Boeing Defence Australia.

Boeing’s Battlespace Communications System will provide secure wideband voice, data and video services over wireless and wired infrastructure between deployed forces and headquarters for land-based Australian Defence Force personnel deployed around the world.

Myra Sefton, director general communications systems from Defence’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group said one the hallmarks of the program has been the engagement with the Air Force and Army signallers to deliver a practical and useful capability to Defence.

“With this development program, we’ve worked with Boeing using an agile sprint methodology to design, field, test, and improve the design through a challenging schedule,” said Sefton.

“This has allowed us to achieve our milestones ahead of the contract schedule, which for a $650 million complex integration project is a big achievement.

“The tactical service router designed by Boeing Defence Australia incorporates passive cooling and flexible components currently unavailable in the market.”

Boeing’s key design philosophy was to make the most flexible agile system to meet the emergent needs of Army and Air Force, in the smallest footprint possible with the ability to scale as required.
“At the centre of the architecture is our Network Access Module, which is our Swiss army knife of networking and computing infrastructure for the system,” said Davis.

“Designed by local engineers in Brisbane, it really is the core of the system capability and enables all the capability bricks to be added into the system, whether it be medium satcom, external network access, troposcatter, high capacity line of sight, long haul fibre, radios, and field voice, supported by the Australian custom-made intuitive Mission System Manager.”

Boeing’s planned transition for service has involved significant engagement with 7th Combat Signal Regiment, 1 Signal Regiment and 1 Combat Communications Squadron, the first three units to receive the system later this year.

SHANGHAI (Reuters) - China will offer support and assistance for Myanmar's follow-up efforts after a military plane crashed off the Southeast Asian country's southern coast with 122 people on board, state media said.

China, as a friendly neighbor, shares Myanmar's sorrow over the incident, President Xi Jinping told his counterpart U Htin Kyaw in a condolence message, state news agency Xinhua said late on Friday.

"Xi mourned the dead and extended sincere sympathy to the government and people of Myanmar, especially the families of the victims," the agency added.

The aircraft, a Chinese-made Y-8-200F transport plane, lost contact 29 minutes after takeoff on Wednesday, while at a height of 18,000 feet (5,485 meters), about 43 miles (70 km) west of the coastal town of Dawei, the Myanmar military has said.

Soldiers, family members and crew were on board the weekly flight from several coastal towns to Myanmar's biggest city of Yangon when it went missing.

Search teams have found one more body, taking to 32 the tally of those pulled from the sea, the military said in a statement on Saturday, adding that high waves and stormy weather continue to hinder recovery efforts.

Panglima TNI : Dermaga Kapal Selam Merupakan Tempat Strategis

Pangkalan Kapal Selam Lainnya

Tasikmalaya - Presiden Joko Widodo menghadiri peresmian pemanfaatan Pangkalan TNI AU Wiriadinata Tasikmalaya menjadi bandara sipil.

Dia minta agar segera direalisasikan.

"Saya bilang, Pak Wali Kota saya beri waktu 2 minggu, saya enggak mau bulan.

Kondisi topografi sekitar bandara relatif datar.

(Detik)

Jokowi Instruksikan "Runway" Bandara Wiriadinata Diperpanjang

Budi kemudian menganggukan kepalanya.

"Oh ya sudah. Tinggal saya lihat akhir tahun ini ya, panjangnya sudah tambah 400 meter menjadi 1.600 meter," ujar Jokowi.

Diberitakan, Sabtu sore, Presiden Jokowi meresmikan pengoperasian Bandar Udara Wiriadinata, Tasikmalaya, Jawa Barat.

(Kompas)
