Thales and PT Len Collaborate to Support Radar Development

JAKARTA, Indonesia/PRNewswire/ -- With over 17,000 islands and a territory stretching across 1.9 million square kilometers, ensuring air sovereignty is a strategic priority for Indonesia. Over the last 35 years, Thales has been supporting the ambitions of the Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) through the supply of air defence radars and air operation centres throughout the country. Today, Thales is reinforcing its support to TNI-AU with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with PT Len in the area of radar development, a key pillar and one of the seven strategic industries to be developed in Indonesia as outlined by the Ministry of Defence. 

Indonesia's Ministry of Defence has outlined 7 strategic industries to be developed in Indonesia. These are in the areas of fighter jets, submarines, missiles, rockets, propellant, medium tanks and radars.

Indonesia's radar strategic project is designed to enhance, expand and strengthen national radar coverage across the country's extensive land and sea territory. Through this MoU, Thales will be providing maintenance to its existing fleet of air defence radars currently in operation with the Air Force, as well as support PT Len in training and transfer-of-technology, to build up local expertise in radar management and maintenance. Thanks to Thales' expertise in high-technology, PT Len will be able to help Indonesian operators make the best decisions when life is at stake.

The MoU further extends Thales and PT Len's years of collaboration in the defence sector, which includes earlier MoUs signed for research and transfer-of-technology in naval combat management systems. Outside of the defence sector, Thales and PT Len are also collaborating on delivering advanced signalling systems for railway projects in Indonesia and the export market, through a separate MoU signed in 2018.

The First Su-30SME Fighter for the Myanmar Air Force Assembled

TSAMTO - The commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, on April 22 visited the Irkutsk Aviation Plant of Irkut Corporation, PJSC, where he was presented the first ordered Su-30SME.

According to Scramble Magazine, citing the information provided to the publication, the plane has already made its first flight and is expected to be transferred to the Myanmar Air Force in the near future.

Recall that the agreement on the supply of six Su-30SME fighters was reached during the visit of Russian Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu to Myanmar from January 20-21, 2018. Later, a source of the Kommersant newspaper reported that the value of the contract is estimated at $ 400 million.

On November 6, 2018, Viktor Kladov, the head of the delegation of the Rostec State Corporation at the Airshow China-2018 exhibition, announced the already signed and ongoing contract with Myanmar for the supply of six Su-30SME.

He also added that Russia had begun to exercise the option to supply six more Yak-130 combat training aircraft to Myanmar (previously Russia had supplied 10 combat training aircraft Yak-130 to Myanmar as part of the basic contract).

Rostec Opens Helicopter Engines Repair Center in Vietnam

Integrated logistics support center for repairing helicopter engines created by UEC-Klimov (subsidiary of the United Engine Corporation, part of Rostec) has begun operations in the Vietnamese city of Vũng Tàu. Pilot repair project of the first engine in the new center has been successfully completed.

The center is equipped with all necessary equpment, spare parts and assemblies to provide repairs for engines designed by UEC-Klimov. By the end of April four more engines in use in Vietnam will go through repairs in the center.

Specialists from UEC-Klimov perform medium repairs of TVZ-117 and VK-2500 engines operated in Vietnam. The Russian side provides the details and spare parts, and trains the personnel for engine and gearbox maintenance. The Vietnamese side will provide support personnel to accompany the working process. The Vietnamese specialists have already received certificates from UEC-Klimov on successful familiarization with the medium repair process of the first engine: TV3-117VM series 02 used by the Mi-17-1V. A foreign object damaged this particular engine during operation by the Vietnamese civil aviation.

“Till the end of April, we’re going to repair four more engines operated in Vietnam. We plan to actively expand the geography of our cooperation and start providing repair and support services of helicopter engines in India, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Australia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Our partners in the region are highly satisfied with the approach and quality of services provided by Rostec, which includes after-sale support for the whole life cycle of our products”, said the Director for International Cooperation and Regional Policy of Rostec, Viktor Kladov.

The Aviation Administration of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam certified the new center. Certifying the support personnel is a mandatory procedure for ensuring the operation and repair process made by the center. Vietnamese specialists familiarized themselves with all the steps concerning medium repairs of the TV3-117 engines and their different models during a technological procedure of the certification.

In October 2018 UEC-Klimov and the Vietnamese company Helicopter Technical Service Company signed a distribution contract concerning service maintenance of engines.

Helicopter Technical Service Company, on the territory of which the new center is located, provides service maintenance for Russian-made helicopters. It also operates as the distributor of ТB3-117 and VK-2500 engines.

Australian Tigers Operate Overseas for First Time

Australia has deployed its Airbus Tiger Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) overseas for the first time, with a detachment participating in joint training exercises with Malaysia.

Four Australian Army Tiger ARHs were airlifted to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) air base at Subang on a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Boeing C-17A Globemaster III strategic airlifter on 21 April, before embarking for training exercises aboard the HMAS Canberra landing helicopter dock (LHD) amphibious assault ship.

Australia operates 22 Tiger ARH helicopters, with deliveries running from December 2004 through to December 2011. The ARH is a hybrid variant of the Tiger that is based on the French HAP (Hélicoptère d'Appui et de Protection), with an undernose Giat 30-781 30 mm cannon, roof-mounted sight, and provision for underwing 70 mm rocket pods, but with added anti-tank capability.

Apart from being the first overseas deployment of the Tiger, the exercises aboard HMAS Canberra mark a major milestone for the helicopter given that until very recently Australian auditors were recommending that it not be operated aboard ships due to performance limitations.

Doktrin Operasi UAV Sedang Dibangunkan ATM

KUALA LUMPUR - Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM) sedang membangunkan doktrin dan konsep operasi pesawat terbang tanpa pemandu (UAV) agar pengoperasiannya dapat digunakan secara efektif dan berkesan dalam menjaga persempadanan daratan serta maritim negara.

Timbalan Menteri Pertahanan, Senator Liew Chin Tong berkata, teknologi UAV didapati efektif berdasarkan daya ketahanan yang lama, jarak pengoperasian yang jauh, selain keupayaan dan kelebihan sensornya.

“ATM setuju dan mengakui kepentingan teknologi UAV pada masa sekarang dan masa hadapan sebagai salah satu strategi peperangan, di samping dapat meningkatkan keupayaan ATM bagi memantau sempadan daratan dan maritim negara.

“Buat masa ini, ATM telah pun mempunyai keupayaan UAV di dalam perkhidmatan bagi tujuan pengawasan, serta turut bekerjasama dengan Jabatan Ukur dan Pemetaan Malaysia (JUPEM) bagi tujuan pemetaan,” katanya ketika sesi soal jawab di Dewan Negara hari ini.

Beliau menjawab soalan Senator Datuk Theodore Douglas Lind mengenai sama ada teknologi ‘drone’ akan diperkenalkan dan digunakan ATM pada masa sekarang dan masa hadapan sebagai satu strategi peperangan yang baharu supaya ATM dapat bersaing dengan angkatan tentera negara jiran.

Chin Tong berkata, teknologi UAV juga akan digunakan sebagai salah satu elemen sistem pengawasan dengan jaringan aktiviti perisikan, pengawasan, pengesanan dan peninjauan (ISTAR) dalam ‘masa sebenar’ dan diintegrasi ke dalam sistem ‘Operasi Jaringan Berpusat’ (NCO) ATM yang kini sedang dibangunkan.

“Keupayaan ini dilihat sebagai kekuatan berganda bagi memantapkan lagi sistem pemantauan daratan dan juga ruang udara negara.

“ATM juga telah lama mengadakan idea untuk mengintegrasikan teknologi dalam pelbagai bidang dalam ATM* kementerian juga mengambil kira industri 4.0 termasuklah penggunaan dan pengoperasian UAV dan kecerdasan buatan* semua ini akan diambil kira dan dilaksanakan,” katanya.

Esperon: Philippines Should Spend More on Defense

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines should increase its defense spending in order for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to fully perform its mandate in securing the country’s territory, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. said.

The retired general said the armed forces is always more than ready to do its job to defend its stakes in the South China Sea, but its capabilities should be beefed up.

“We just want to assure you, having come from the armed forces, that we are ready anytime but you have to capacitate us also. Otherwise, we go for other things,” he said on Wednesday at a forum on the West Philippine Sea.

The Philippines passed a law calling for the modernization of the AFP in 1995, after China’s occupation of Panganiban Reef (Mischief Reef), which is located within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone. The implementation of the 15-year plan didn’t go as planned and turned out to be a failure.

“We really haven’t got anything except from the savings of the Presidents, so who do we blame for this? Do we blame the senators or the congressmen? Or we as a nation?” Esperon said.

“It seems like we are not willing to spend for defense, but we want defense. So where do you put the Armed Forces in that arrangement? Our defense spending is about 1.1% of the GDP (gross domestic product)…China has more,” he added.

The revised modernization program is now divided into three phases: Horizon 1 ran from 2013 to 2017, Horizon 2 covers 2018 to 2022, while Horizon 3 is from 2023 to 2028.

“We are now trying to build capability. We are maintaining our presence in the Kalayaan Island Group. We have put lighthouses; we will repair the airstrip. It will be an all-weather airstrip,” he said.

The Philippines was the first of the claimants in the South China Sea to put an airstrip in the Spratlys back in the 1970s. Other claimants only followed suit.

China built its massive artificial islands only in recent years.

“If you want all these parts of the territory to be defended, don’t look at the armed forces. You look at the other officials,” Esperon said. /je

FNSS-DEFTECH: AV-8 AENBCRV Vehicle Prepares to Enter Malaysian Army Inventory

The Armoured Engineer Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle (AENBCRV) version of the AV-8 Wheeled Armoured Vehicle (WAV) developed by the FNSS and DRB HICOM Defence Technologies Sdn Bhd (DEFTECH) partnership for the Malaysian Army is preparing for delivery in the first half of this year.

Passing all tests with flying colours, the AV-8 AENBCRV entered the second and final stage of the qualification process, during which its endurance was tested.

The AV-8 AENBCRV is fitted with CBRN detection equipment and systems to detect and classify of any type of chemical, biological, radioactive or nuclear agents. The vehicle can determine and classify the hazard zone and alert other military units and civilians of potential dangers, thus enabling them to take the necessary countermeasures.

Possessing a complex and modern system architecture and mission-specific equipment, the AENBCRV’s initial vehicle development processes – comprising conceptual design, detailed design, manufacturing and assembly – was carried out entirely by FNSS. The ongoing qualification tests serve to demonstrate that the vehicle fully and comprehensively meets the requirements set by the user. The first stage of these tests, involving Land Performance Tests and CBRN System Tests, has already been completed after being carried out at FNSS’ facilities in Ankara. The second stage of the tests – the Endurance Tests – were launched in Malaysia in February 2019. Following the successful completion of these tests, the acceptance and delivery of the first vehicle to the end user will take place in Malaysia in the upcoming days.



Under the project, four AENBCRV vehicles will be delivered, the first of which will be the vehicle that completed its qualification tests. The remaining three vehicles will be manufactured and delivered by FNSS by 2020.

The AV-8 AENBCRV stands out as the first 8×8 CBRN vehicle to be developed by FNSS. The components of the CBRN system, as the main mission equipment aboard the vehicle, was procured from domestic and foreign suppliers in line with the user’s preferences, and the integration solutions were applied together with the Environics company of Finland. FNSS has also conducted indigenisation works on some of the CBRN system’s subsystems, thus aiding domestic subcontractors in acquiring new competencies.

Commenting on this latest milestone reached by the company with the AV-8 WAV project, K. Nail Kurt, General Manager and CEO of FNSS, said: “The AV-8 WAV project continues to be the single largest defence system export contract signed by Turkey in the field of land systems, and it is also one of the most complex projects in its field due to the large number of vehicle configurations involved. Integrated with a wide variety of mission equipment, the AENBCRV is the one of the AV-8’s most challenging configurations to date. We have fashioned the vehicle in close contact with the user, ensuring they are supplied with the specific capabilities they need. Our vehicle is now proving itself in rigorous tests, and I believe that it will pass all of these with great success, becoming the best in its class and joining the inventory of the friendly and allied nation of Malaysia. With this vehicle, both FNSS and the Turkish defence sector have acquired very important capabilities. South Korea’s HHI Launches RNZN’s Future Fleet Support Vessel

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) launched the Royal New Zealand Navy's (RNZN's) future fleet tanker/replenishment vessel at the company's dockyard in the southeastern coast al city of Ulsan on 24 April.

The 173 m-long auxiliary oiler replenishment (AOR) ship, which will be known as HMNZS Aotearoa once commissioned, was floated in the drydock at Ulsan in a ceremony attended by RNZN chief Rear Admiral David Proctor, among others.

Ordered for NZD493 million (USD323 million) in 2016 under New Zealand's Maritime Sustainment Capability (MSC) programme, the vessel was laid down in August 2018 and is expected to be delivered and commissioned in 2020 when it will replace fleet replenishment tanker Endeavour , which was decommissioned in December 2017.

Mengenal Kemampuan BT-3F yang Dipilih Marinir Indonesia

Kementerian Pertahanan dilaporkan telah menandatangani pengadaan kendaraan tempur amfibi BMP-3F dan kendaraan angkut personel BT-3F untuk Korps Marinir TNI Angkatan Laut dengan Rusia. Pemerintah Indonesia akan menambah 22 unit tank BMP-3F dan membawa 21 unit BT-3F ke Indonesia.

BMP-3F tidak asing lagi bagi Marinir Indonesia karena ini adalah pengadaan ketiga kalinya. Sedangkan untuk 21 unit pengadaan tank angkut personel BT-3F merupakan yang pertama. Apa kehebatan yang ditawarkan BT-3F?

Kendaraan angkut personel lapis baja atau armoured personnel carriers (APC)  BT -3F dibangun oleh Concern Tractor Plants (KTZ) dan pada September 2016 sebuah prototipe dari kendaraan tempur amfibi ini baru diluncurkan.

Kendaraan tempur amfibi BT-3F dibangun dengan maksud untuk digunakan oleh Angkatan Darat, Angkatan Laut dan Korps Marinir Rusia. Kendaraan ini akan memberikan kemampuan manuver yang tinggi, proteksi lapis baja dan dukungan tembakan  langsung untuk pasukan di darat dan di laut. Kendaraan ini dirancang untuk transportasi  infanteri, amunisi, peralatan dan mesin ke medan perang.

Perkembangan kendaraan lapis baja BT-3F dimulai pada 2010. Amfibi BT-3F didasarkan pada kendaraan tempur amfibi BMP-3F marinir  yang berasal dari BMP-3 IFV.

IFV baru diantisipasi untuk menggantikan kendaraan lapis baja pengangkut personel amfibi MT-LB Rusia yang sudah tua.

Kendaraan tempur amfibi BT-3F didasarkan pada chassis track  dan fitur lambung lapis baja. Kendaraan memiliki panjang  7m, lebar 3,3 meter dan tinggi  3 meter serta berat kotor  18,5 ton.

Kendaraan lapis baja diawaki oleh tiga  awak dan dapat membawa sampai 14 tentara. Pengemudi duduk di tengah-tengah lambung, sementara kursi komandan dan asisten  komandan ditempatkan di  kedua sisi pengemudi.

Kru masuk dan keluar dari kendaraan melalui pintu atap. Kompartemen pasukan  memiliki dua pintu samping di bagian belakang dan dua lubang keluar di bagian atap.

Persenjataan

Kendaraan dilengkapi dengan stasiun senjata yang dikendalikan jarak jauh 185kg DPV-T, dipersenjatai dengan  senapan mesin PKTM Kalashnikov 7.62mm x 54mm, dipasang di atap kendaraan untuk terlibat  target tetap dan bergerak di darat.

Sistem senjata juga dilengkapi dengan equipped with television / infrared imaging sight dan sebuah laser rangefinder untuk  reconnaissance, surveillance dan akuisi target.

Sistem ini memiliki kisaran elevasi  -5 ° sampai 75 °  dan dapat berputar  360 °.

Menara dioperasikan dari jarak jauh oleh kru menggunakan unit kontrol yang terletak di dalam kendaraan.  Informasi lokasi target disimpan dalam integrated ballistic computer, yang menjamin kinerja tinggi dan efisiensi menembak. Kendaran juga memiliki  opsional untuk dilengkapi dengan senapan mesin berat 14.5mm.

Armor  dan Kinerja

Lambung kendaraan lapis baja infanteri BT-3F  menawarkan  perlindungan STANAG 4569 Level 4 untuk menahan serangan armour piercing ammunition 14.5mm x 114mm.

Tiga peluncur granat asap 40mm disediakan di atas kendaraan untuk memastikan kemampuan bertahan hidup yang tinggi kru di medan perang.

Kinerja

Mesin BT-3F menggunakan mesin diesel UTD-29 dengan  sistem empat langkah, injeksi langsung, liquid-cooled, multi bahan bakar. Mesin menghasilkan kekuatan  500 tenaga kuda.

Dilengkapi dengan enam roda di kedua sisi, IFV menggabungkan hidrolik peredam kejut dan sistem suspensi torsion bar yang menggunakan bar torsi individu.

Kendaraan  personel lapis baja memiliki kecepatan jalan 70 km/jam dan mampu melakukan perjalanan pada kecepatan 10km/jam di dalam air. Kisaran operasional kendaraan adalah 600 km.

HMAS Adelaide Embarks Mechanised Combat Team for the First Time

HMAS Adelaide has for the first time embarked a mechanised combat team including supporting elements to conduct Sea Basing Amphibious Operations over the Joint War Fighter Series in 2019.

A mechanised Combat Team from Battle Group Boar, centred on the 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (7 RAR), embarked in HMAS Adelaide during the recent visit to namesake port Adelaide.

The Amphibious Warfare Officer and Head of the Amphibious Department on board Adelaide, Major Charles De-Zilva said the task was complicated by the shallow tidal window of Port of Flinders in Adelaide’s Outer Harbor, during the embarkation period.



“To overcome this constraint, HMAS Adelaide used a pontoon barge to extend the tidal window for its side doors, and a detailed rehearsal and embarkation planning were conducted by the Adelaide Amphibious Task Group and 7 RAR to ensure safe and efficient embarkation.

“For Sea Series components of Joint War Fighter Series 2019, Adelaide is the Primary Control Ship for the Amphibious Task Group. This task is another first for Adelaide as she will be controlling multiple surface connectors from both HMAS Canberra and Adelaide,” said Major De-Zilva.

Commanding Officer 7 RAR, Lieutenant Colonel Adam Gower said throughout the Joint War Fighter Series 2019, Battle Group Boar will conduct Ship to Object Manoeuvre (STOM) and use both a mechanised and Air Mobile Combat Teams from Adelaide.



“This will be the first time that the Adelaide amphibious department will conduct STOM with a mechanised Combat Team and the first time that 7 RAR have conducted Sea Basing Operations with Adelaide.

“This is a step change in the capability that 7 RAR can provide to the Australian Defence Force.

“At the end of these activities we will be able to project and sustain combat power using both air and surface ship to shore connectors,” said Lieutenant Colonel Gower.



The Amphibious Department operates and controls both the heavy and light vehicle decks, the embarked forces accommodation and the Ship to Objective Manoeuvre. The Amphibious Department on HMAS Adelaide has a variety of essential components on the ship for vehicle embarkation and disembarkation, either by ship to shore connectors or while alongside using the ships doors and vehicle ramps.

The Amphibious Department also controls all amphibious Ship to Objective Manoeuvres, by air and surface connectors.

TNI AU Lakukan Latihan Penembakan Rudal QW-3 di Garut

Dankorpaskhas Tinjau Penembakan Rudal QW-3 di Garut

TNI AU. Bertempat di Pantai Santolo, Kecamatan Pameungpeuk, Komandan Korpaskhas Marsekal Muda TNI Eris Widodo Y, S.E., M.Tr (Han) bersama Pejabat Korpaskhas meninjau langsung kegiatan penembakan rudal QW-3. Rabu (24/4).

Penembakan rudal QW-3 tersebut merupakan salah satu materi dari latihan pemantapan satuan pertahanan udara (Hanud) Korpaskhas  yang diikuti oleh perwakilan prajurit Detasemen Hanud Paskhas dan siswa kursus Hanud Satdik Hanud Pusdiklat Paskhas. Berbeda dengan latihan-latihan sebelumnya, kali ini penembakan rudal dilakukan juga pada malam hari dengan tujuan agar kesiapan para prajurit dalam melaksanakan pertempuran lebih meningkat.



Kegiatan diawali dengan proses take off target drone yang diasumsikan sebagai pesawat tempur musuh, kemudian operator radar Smart Hunter mendeteksi sinyal posisi target drone tersebut dan melaporkan kejadian tersebut ke komando atas.. Setelah dipastikan bahwa sinyal tersebut merupakan pesawat musuh, dari komando atas memerintahkan kepada satuan Hanud Korpaskhas agar menembak jatuh pesawat tersebut.


Tibalah saatnya para petembak rudal QW-3 membidik target pesawat musuh yang telah terdeteksi tadi. Setelah sasaran terkunci, maka rudal QW-3 langsung ditembakan dari darat menuju ke udara dan langsung menghantam target dengan sukses.



Pada kesempatan tersebut Dankorpaskhas menyampaikan kepada seluruh peserta latihan untuk terus mengasah kemampuannya sehingga para prajurit akan semakin menguasai alutsista yang diawakinya dan juga proses regenerasinya agar terus dipelihara.

SAAB Buat Desain Jet Tempur Gripen Dengan Logo TNI AU

Merdeka.com - Pabrikan jet tempur asal Swedia SAAB, memposting jet tempur Gripen buatannya dengan logo TNI AU. Ada empat desain yang dibuat. Mereka memang gencar melobi Indonesia untuk membeli jet tempur multiperan itu.

"Gripen untuk Indonesia. Kami telah membuat beberapa ide desain untuk Gripen dengan karakter Indonesia. Yang mana yang menjadi favorit Anda?" tulis SAAB di akun Facebooknya, Jumat (26/4).

Sejak 2016 lalu, SAAB telah menawarkan Gripen pada TNI AU. Namun Indonesia memilih Sukhoi Su-35 dari Rusia.

Gripen hampir mirip dengan Super Hornet yang menjadi pesawat tempur multi peran. Gripen menggunakan radar pulse-doppler yang dapat mendeteksi dan mengindentifikasi pesawat musuh dari jarak maksimum 120 kilometer.


Gripen dirancang sebagai senjata bertahan untuk melindungi dari serangan potensial. Gripen dirancang untuk digunakan pada landasan pacu pendek bahkan hanya 800 meter.

Harga pesawat ini ditaksir mencapai USD 69 juta atau setara dengan Rp 893 miliar. Selain Swedia, Jas 39 ini juga digunakan oleh Afrika Selatan, Thailand, Hungaria, Republik Ceko.

Menurut Saab, Gripen merupakan jawaban bagi Indonesia yang membutuhkan alustsita untuk kepentingan pertahanan udara. Sebab, alat ini bisa mendeteksi target sekecil apapun.

Saab meyakini, pesawat ini cocok dengan Indonesia yang tengah gencar menghadapi illegal fishing, antipenyelundupan orang, antipembajakan, penyelamatan, bahkan konflik di Laut China Selatan.

Joint Exercise to Boost Brunei-Japan Defence Ties

THE scope of Brunei Darussalam and Japan’s bilateral ties is set to become stronger, particularly in the area of defence as the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) conducts a joint maritime exercise today.

Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Motohiko Kato stated this at a press conference in the Embassy of Japan in Brunei Darussalam recently to share details about the Deployment Airforce for Counter Piracy Enforcement (DAPE) exercise.

The ambassador said that since 2010, the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) has been actively involved with the international community in surveillance operations and pirate patrol in waters near Somalia, where Japan deployed two of its maritime patrol P-3C Orion aircraft to help combat pirate activities in the area.

The P-3C Orions are deployed at the location for a three-month patrol operation, before being replaced by another set of patrol aircraft to enable crew members to return home and maintain the aircraft.

The two P-3C Orions with 35 crew members are in the country for the maritime exercise with RBN today, where the scenario of the detection of a ship in distress and communicating information to RBN for rescue operations will be carried out.

The ambassador expressed his hope that the joint maritime exercise will benefit both sides in strengthening their capabilities and skills in defence.

He also hoped such exercises will continue in the future to safeguard the peace and stability of South China Sea.

He noted the strong friendship and cooperation between Brunei and Japan in various sectors including trade, education, culture, sports and defence and shared that both sides are working closely to identify new areas of cooperation to strengthen bilateral ties.

Defence Settles with Navantia on Repair of LHDs

Defence has reached a settlement with Navantia over repair costs for RAN's two Landing Helicopter Docks (LHDs).

According to the ABC, the settlement is 'favourable' for Defence, although exact figures were not given. In a statement, Defence also told the national broadcaster that the two ships are now largely problem-free and can operate 'without significant issues'.

"Defence has worked very closely with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and industry to identify all issues that were affecting the performance of the Canberra Class Landing Helicopter Dock propulsion pod system," a spokesperson said.

"Measures have been implemented that have enabled the Canberra Class to operate without further significant issues."

Issues with the LHDs stemmed from irregularities within their external azimuth propulsion pods. Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, in answer to questions from Labor Senator Kim Carr during a Senate hearing in 2017, confirmed that RAN had observed the migration of oils across seals and tiny metal particulates in the pod lube oil. Oils of different viscosities were also found to have mixed within the pods of both ships.

The problems saw HMAS Adelaide dry-docked in Sydney's Garden Island naval base.

Each ship is propelled by two Siemens Navantia 11-megawatt azimuth thrusters, each with an onboard electric motor, driving 4.5 metre diameter propellors. The electricity is provided by a combined diesel and gas (CODAG) system.

KOTA KINABALU - Satu unit baharu Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM) iaitu sistem pesawat tanpa pengendali atau Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) akan ditempatkan di Pangkalan TLDM Kota Kinabalu bagi mempertingkatkan lagi keupayaan pemantauan sedia ada.

Panglima Armada Timur Laksmana Madya, Datuk Rahman Ayob berkata, unit pemantau baharu TLDM berkenaan, kini dalam proses penubuhan pasukan dengan membuat pemilihan anggota yang sesuai, dan dijangka mula beroperasi sepenuhnya pada suku pertama tahun hadapan.

“UAS ini akan menggunakan ‘dron’ untuk pengawasan udara, dan saya percaya dengan adanya aset ini akan meningkatkan lagi keberkesanan pengoperasian di Markas Armada Timur ini,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas menyampaikan perutusan Panglima Tentera Laut dan Majlis Jasamu Dikenang di sini, hari ini.

Keupayaan teknologi UAS akan menjadi ‘Maritime Force Multiplier’ iaitu konsep penggandaan keupayaan bagi kemampuan meliputi jarak, masa serta kawasan operasi, bagi memperkasakan kesiagaan pertahanan maritim negara khususnya di Zon Ekonomi Eksklusif (ZEE) dan kawasan berkepentingan negara.

Rahman berkata, selain itu TLDM juga merancang menempatkan kesemua kapal peronda luar pantai kelas-Kedah di Pangkalan TLDM Kota Kinabalu.

“Setakat ini Armada Timur telah menerima empat kapal peronda berkenaan dan baki dua lagi kapal akan ditempatkan di pangkalan ini pada tahun hadapan,” tambahnya.

Beliau berkata Armada Timur juga bakal menerima satu kapal misi pesisir (LMS) pada 2021 bergantung dengan perbincangan Armada Barat dan Armada Timur.

Pembinaan kapal LMS oleh China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Co. Ltd (CSOC) dan Boustead Naval Shipyard merupakan 1 daripada 5 kelas atau jenis kapal yang dilulus kerajaan di bawah program transformasi armada TLDM 15 ke-5 untuk membolehkan TLDM melaksana tugas operasi secara berterusan di perairan maritim dan memperkukuhkan kedaulatan negara.

RAAF to Equip Some C-130Js with Upgraded SATCOM Suite

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) will equip half of its fleet of Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules airlifters with an upgraded satellite communications (SATCOM) suite.

Under the upgrade, which was announced by the Department of Defence (DoD) on 29 April, six of the RAAF’s 12 C-130J-30 aircraft will be fitted with a Honeywell Ka-Band sitcom antenna and suite by 2022. As noted by the service, the decision to begin rolling out the high-speed communications system later this year follows a successful trial that was launched aboard one aircraft in 2017.

The system enables streaming of high-definition video and supports complex mission planning while the aircraft is in flight, and is geared at improving the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF’s) ability to respond to a crisis. The RAAF’s 12 C-130J Hercules already carry L-Band satcom, which permits global voice communications and data transfer.

TNI AU. Komandan Komando Pemeliharaan MateriIl TNI Angkatan Udara (Dankoharmatau) Marsekal Muda TNI Dento Priyono meninjau Fasilitas Pemeliharaan dan Perbaikan Pesawat Terbang (Fasharkan Pesud) Pusat Penerbangan TNI Angkatan Laut, yang berada di Pangkalan Udara Angkatan Laut (Lanudal) Surabaya dan Depohar 30 Malang, Rabu – Kamis, 24 dan 25 April 2019.

Kegiatan tersebut dalam rangkaian kunjungan kerjanya ke Jawa Timur. Dankoharmatau Marsekal Muda TNI Dento Priyono, didampingi Komandan Pusat Penerbangan Angkatan Laut Laksamana Pertama TNI Dwika, serta pejabat Koharmatau diantaranya Asren Koharmatau Kolonel Tek J. Parulian Sihombing, Dirharpesbang Koharmatau Kolonel Tek Dani Harsono, Sahli Bidang Airframe Kolonel Tek Dedy Cahyadi,T., Kolonel Tek Ade Budiana, dan Teknisi yang langsung meninjau ke lapangan. Kunjungan tersebut diterima langsung Komandan Puspenerbal Laksamana Pertama TNI beserta staf.

Marsda TNI Dento Priyono, mengatakan kunjungan ini adalah selain melihat sejauh mana kemampuan TNI AL dalam pemeliharaan pesawat, Juga dalam penjajakan yang bisa di kerjasamakan dalam pemeliharaan Engine M 250-B 17 F (Engine pesawat Grob 120) Lanud Adi Sutjipto. Menurutnya TNI AL telah berpengalaman dalam pemeliharaan Engine yang sejenis yaitu M 250-B 17 B (Engine pesawat Nomad).

Lebih lanjut Marsda TNI Dento Priyono menyampaikan tujuan kerjasama tersebut yang lebih prioritas adalah untuk penghematan Anggaran Negara sekaligus peningkatan kemampuan Overhoul Engine M 250-B 17 F di Depohar 30 Malang.

Selain itu, orang nomor satu di Koharmatau tersebut juga akan membuat Engine Test cell untuk pengecekan Performa Engine hasil dari Pemeliharaan di Depohar 30. Hal ini untuk melihat hasil OH Engine sesuai parameter T.O yang ada, sehingga hasil pemeliharaan bisa langsung dipasang di pesawat Grob kedepannya.

Menurutnya, dengan adanya kerjasama kedepan perlu dilaksanakan kunjungan ke fasilitas pemeliharaan dan perbaikan pesawat udara (Farharkan Pesud) untuk mengetahui kemampuan pemeliharaan meliputi sarana prasarana, fasilitasnya yang dihadapkan dengan kesempatan dan kesiapan dalam rangka mendukung peningkatan pemeliharaan berat engine Roll Royce M250-B 17 F pesawat G 120TP-A Grob di Depohar 30,” Tegas Dankoharmatau.

Kunjungan kerja ini dinilai sangat penting, meskipun sangat singkat, karena merupakan salah satu mata rantai dalam upaya melaksanakan peningkatan kinerja dan peningkatan pencapaian sasaran pelaksanaan tugas pemeliharaan alutsista TNI Angkatan Udara, Tambahnya.

Dankoharmatau berharap, apabila dari Komandan Puspenerbal dan jajaran ada hal-hal yang dapat kami bantu atau dukung demi kemajuan Fasharkan Pesud Puspenerbal atau sekaligus sebagai kunjungan balasan tentunya dengan senang hati kami menerimanya.

TLDM Lancar Aplikasi Rujukan RMN Quick Reference

LUMUT – Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM) melancarkan aplikasi khusus yang dikenali sebagai RMN Quick Reference E-MPAB bagi kegunaan warga pasukan itu mendapatkan maklumat serta membuat rujukan berkaitan bidang tugas mereka.

Menerusi aplikasi ini, warga TLDM termasuk yang sedang melakukan operasi di atas kapal boleh mengakses pelbagai maklumat berkaitan menerusi telefon pintar masing-masing.

Ia merangkumi aplikasi E-Book Ship Husbandry, Navigation Quick Reference, Navigation Quick Guide, PWO Crib, Ship’s Tips dan Rules of the Road (ROR).

Panglima TLDM, Laksamana Datuk Mohd. Reza Mohd. Sany berkata, pengenalan aplikasi pintar itu sejajar dengan perkembangan teknologi komunikasi dan maklumat (ICT) dalam kalangan warga angkatan laut itu.

Menurut beliau, menariknya aplikasi berkenaan dibangunkan sendiri oleh sekumpulan pegawai TLDM sekali gus membuktikan penguasaan mereka dalam bidang ICT.

“Perkembangan ICT masa kini telah memberikan impak yang amat besar kepada dunia malah tidak terkecuali TLDM terutama dalam kalangan Generasi Y.

“Aplikasi ini merupakan ikon yang boleh diakses bagi tujuan rujukan segera. Ia sangat sesuai kepada pegawai-pegawai muda dengan kelebihan konsep rujukan pantas melalui telefon pintar.

“Secara tidak langsung, ianya menyediakan kemudahan dalam proses pembelajaran kepeda generasi masa kini,” ujarnya.

Beliau berkata demikian pada sidang akhbar selepas hadir pada Perbarisan Hari TLDM ke-85 di Pangkalan TLDM Lumut di sini hari ini.

Turut hadir Timbalannya, Laksamana Madya Datuk Khairul Anuar Yahya dan Panglima Armada Barat, Laksamana Madya Datuk Rosli Ramli.

Terdahulu, Mohd. Reza memeriksa perbarisan terdiri daripada 26 pegawai dan 538 anggota diketuai Komander Mohamad Hilmi Yusof.

Dalam pada itu, menyentuh tentang pembangunan TLDM, kata Mohd. Reza, pasukan itu tetap melaksanakan inisiatif untuk memperkasakan aset sedia ada bagi memenuhi keperluan operasi yang dinamik.

Ujar beliau, antaranya program pengupayaan semula kapal peronda KD Baung oleh sebuah syarikat tempatan yang menyaksikan TLDM berjimat sebanyak 70 peratus atau RM22 juta berbanding pelaksanaan kaedah konvensional.

“Kita juga melaksanakan pemasangan sistem kawalan tembakan terhadap kapal-kapal  Skuadron Kapal Ronda Ke-17 dan Korvet Ke-24 serta peningkatan keupayan sistem pengurusan tempur KD Jebat.

“Turut dirancang proses menaik taraf kapal-kapal pembinasa laju melalui pemasangan sistem pengurusan tempur buatan tempatan, pengupayaan kapal pemusnah periuk api, perolehan bot pemintas lajut  dan pesawat tanpa pemandu (UAV). Kesemua ini sebagai aspek sokongan kepada Program Transformsi 15 ke 5 TLDM,” ujarnya.

“The Philippine Navy has to establish a credible presence there, in terms of combat ships, if we are to discourage foreign seaborne threats, including poachers,” said Surigao del Sur Representative Johnny Pimentel as quoted by ManilaStandard.net.

Pimentel is a member of House of Representatives National Defense and Security Committee.

The solon said the Philippine Navy lacks battle-ready ships, a reason why Philippines is having difficulty in enforcing sovereign rights within its exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

“Our naval warfare service should at least be as formidable as Indonesia’s, which has three fleets of larger and faster ships, including submarines.” he said.

He also lamented the current situation of the three Del Pilar-class ships which were recently reclassified as offshore patrol vessels. One is for repair.

The Philippine Navy is set to receive two Korean-made frigates, however, Pimentel said these will not be enough. “The two frigates are a definitely a good start, but sadly, they won’t be enough. Indonesia has at least eight frigates, among other warships,” he said.

“The next Congress should see to it that the Navy gets all the new funding needed to acquire more warships in the years ahead,” he noted.
