Australia seeks oceanographic survey vessel to support amphibious missions and submarine operations (photo : MSC)
The Australian Department of Defence (DoD) is seeking design information from contractors for the construction of a specialised vessel to provide a strategic military survey capability.
Sources told Jane’s that the new ship would collect geospatial data in support of amphibious missions and submarine operations over an extensive area to Australia’s north.
An invitation to register (ITR) issued by the DoD’s Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) pointed out that Project Sea 2400 Phase 1 aims to introduce a strategic military survey capability that would comprise an oceanographic/hydrographic survey vessel and complementary systems.
The ITR, which closes on 5 February, seeks information related to in-service designs or a modified variant of an in-service design.
