AWD PROGRESS
The Bridge for the first destroyer that is under construction as part of the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) project was this week lifted onto the ship structure.
The AWD Alliance completed this work on Wednesday morning. The block is a combination of two smaller blocks constructed by lead shipbuilder ASC and weighing more than 200 tonnes, it is the biggest to be added to the ship structure to date. The forward superstructure houses the ship’s command hub - the Bridge and the Operations Room (Combat Information Centre).
The AWD Alliance is responsible for delivering the three destroyers to the Royal Australian Navy and is made up of the DMO representing the Australian Government, ASC as the lead shipbuilder and Raytheon Australia as the mission systems integrator.
