DCNS is positioning its OPV 90 and Gowind 2500 designs for the Indonesian Navy's (Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Laut, or TNI-AL's) requirements for two 80 m offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) and two possible follow-on frigates to the SIGMA 10514 platforms, respectively.

Speaking to IHS Jane's at the Indo Defence 2016 exhibition in Jakarta, DCNS officials confirmed that the shipbuilder will be participating in these competitions. Formal tenders for the projects are largely expected to be issued in 2017.

The OPV 90 design is being offered through Kership, a subsidiary of DCNS and another French shipbuilder, Piriou.

According to specifications provided by the company, the OPV 90 design features an overall length of 87 m, an overall beam of 13.6 m, and a design draught of 3.2 m. The platform can accommodate about 60, including crew and special mission personnel, and one 10-tonne helicopter on its flight deck.

The OPV has a top speed of 21 kt and a range of 8,000 n miles at 12 kt on an endurance of 21 days. According to DCNS, the OPV 90 design is operational with the French Navy as the Gowind corvette, L'Adroit (P 275).

Meanwhile, the Gowind 2500 design features an overall length of more than 100 m, an overall beam of 16 m, and a design draught of 5.4 m. The platform can be equipped with a 16-cell vertical launch system (VLS), hull-mounted and variable-depth sonars, launchers for torpedoes and anti-ship missiles, and a main gun of up to 76 mm in calibre.

"One of our strong credentials when entering these projects, is that we have a good track record of partnering with local industries to deliver the vessels," said Fabrice Honore, director of DCNS Indonesia.
