Thales has been selected to supply its TSM 2022 Mk III multi-frequency, wideband minehunting sonar and M-Cube mine countermeasures (MCM) combat management system (CMS) for the mid-life upgrade of the Royal Thai Navy's (RTN's) two Bang Rachan-class mine countermeasures vessels (MCMVs), a service official has confirmed to IHS Jane's .
The new systems are to be installed under a EUR70 million (USD79 million) programme designed to extend the vessels' service life by about 20 years, and to improve the performance of their MCM suite to keep pace with the evolving mine threat.
Built by Lürssen in Germany, the two Bang Rachan-class vessels were commissioned in 1987.
