SHAH ALAM: DML Technologies Sdn Bhd has been awarded the contracts for the supply, testing and commissioning of solid state navigation radars for the the 23rd Frigate Squadron and the MPCSS ships, according to the e-tender website of the Defence Ministry.
The other items sought for the 23rd Squadron in tenders published in June this year, however have yet to be announced officially. Among the other items being sought were the Electronic Optical Tracking System (EOTS) and a degaussing system.
The ships of the 23rd Squadron are the KD Lekiu and KD Jebat. The MPCSS ships are of course the KD Mahawangsa and KD Inderasakti.
Both the KD Lekiu and KD Mahawangsa were at the Boustead Naval Dockyard for their refit when Malaysian Defence visited the Lumut base in late November. However, it is not known whether the new navigation radars and other items sought in the June tenders, could be fitted on both ships during this refit period.
The navigation radars selected MalaysianDefence told that it was from Terma, a Danish company. The model selected is likely the Terma Scanter 6000 series, although it was not mentioned in the award document.
According to Terma, “the Scanter X-band Navigation, Surface Search and Short Range Air Surveillance Radar Systems are complete radar sensor systems with proven small target detection capability to assist authorities in efficiently monitoring illegal activities such as drug trafficking, smuggling, illegal immigrants, piracy, illicit fishing, terrorism, etc. It is perfectly suited for high-definition sea surface surveillance and short-range air surveillance for helicopter control and ship navigation.”

Meanwhile. Puncak Teknologi (M) Sdn Bhd has been awarded the contract to supply and commissioned the Underwater Surveillance System (USS) for the RMN Kota Kinabalu naval base at Teluk Sepanggar.
According to the document released in the E-tender site, the contract for the tender was awarded to Puncak Teknologi on November 2. MalaysianDefence was told that Puncak Teknologi is working with Signalis– an Airbus DS and Atlas Elektronik company – for the programme with an integrated above and underwater surveillance sensors called STYRIS.
Both companies are working together for the Sabah Sea Surveillance System operated by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
Signalis is also the provider for the command and control system for the new Spexer radars for ESSCOM.
