The armed forces of Kenya and the Philippines are looking to acquire 31 inflatable boats - designed for amphibious and maritime security operations - under the United States' Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programme.
Twenty-five 4.7 m boats are destined for the Philippines while Kenya will receive six, according to a request for proposals (RfP) issued by US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) on 29 June.
Each boat will comprise at least four air-tight inflatable compartments and will be able to accommodate up to 10 personnel. Power will be provided by a 55 hp multifuel outboard engine manufactured by Johnson (for the Philippines) and Yamaha (for Kenya).
